Special Events
Summary: Learn how to satisfy the requirements for events to be held at UCSC.
A Use Permit is required for all special events held on campus.
How to Obtain a Use Permit
- Complete and sign the UCSC Use Permit Application.
- Send the completed, signed Use Permit Application to the sponsoring department for their approval.
- The sponsoring department sends the completed, signed, approved Use Permit Application to Risk Services for review.
- Present a Certificate of Insurance (COI) naming the Regents of the University of California as additional insured to Risk Services. (See COI information on the second page of the UCSC Use Permit Application.)
OR
Purchase insurance for the event. Risk Services can facilitate the
purchase through an independent company.
To request a quote for insurance, complete the UCSC

When requesting a quote, provide the preferred email address or fax number for receiving the quote.
- Risk Services reviews the application and provides a quote for insurance, if requested.
- Purchase quoted insurance at least two (2) weeks prior to the event by sending a certified check or money order payable to the U.C. Regents to Risk Services (no personal checks allowed.)
- Risk Services:
- Confirms that adequate insurance is in place
- Issues the Use Permit to the sponsoring department
- Provides the original Certificate of Insurance to the applicant and a copy of the COI to the sponsoring department.
