Supplier Insurance Requirements Summary: Learn general information about the insurance requirements for suppliers of goods and services doing business with the University of California, Santa Cruz.Standard Insurance RequirementsThe University of California's policy is that all suppliers doing business with the university carry insurance. This includes both suppliers that provide services and suppliers that provide goods. The information below, provided by the UCSC Office of Risk Services, summarizes standard insurance requirements for suppliers, including types of insurance coverage and the amount of insurance coverage suppliers need to carry.
Exemptions and Modifications to the Standard Insurance RequirementsSome categories of suppliers that provide low risk services have been exempted from the standard insurance requirements, as described in Supplier Categories Exempt from the Insurance Requirements. Some categories of suppliers require higher levels of insurance or specialized coverage as described in the University of California Vendor Matrix (pdf). The UCSC Office of Risk Services will consider modifications (higher or lower coverage amounts) or exemptions to the standard insurance requirements for a specific supplier for a specific activity (i.e. a specific job) that the supplier is performing for the university. No specific supplier is granted a blanket exemption to the standard insurance requirements. If a supplier is providing a high-risk service or providing a high-risk good then higher insurance coverage amounts and/or additional types of coverage must be considered. Examples of high-risk goods are scaffolding, bleachers, elevating lifts, hi-energy equipment and pharmaceuticals. Please consult with the Office of Risk Services regarding potential high-risk goods or high-risk services. Certificates of InsuranceService providers not exempted from insurance requirements, and providers of high risk goods will need to provide a Certificate of Insurance as evidence of meeting the applicable insurance requirements. See Certificates of Insurance (COI). Last revised: March 24, 2009 (am)
