UC Insurance Requirements for Suppliers

Summaries of the UC insurance requirements are presented here for the university's suppliers. Suppliers include independent contractors, consultants, vendors, or other service providers providing goods or services under a contract, purchase order or other written agreement with the university. Additional insurance might be required. 

Sample certificate of insurance reflecting the minimum insurance requirements

The following wording within the description area of the certificate of insurance is recommended to indicate compliance with the university's insurance requirements: 

Regents of the University of California, its officers, agents and employees are named as additional insured with respect to general and auto liability. General liability coverage shall contain a severability of interest provision and shall be primary with respect to the Regents of the University of California, its officers, agents and employees. Any insurance or self-insurance maintained by The Regents of the University of California shall be excess of and non-contributory with such insurance.

Minimum Insurance Requirements and Privacy, Technology and Data Security Liability, Cyber Liability, or Technology Professional Liability Insurance

Insurance requirement varies by Protection Level Classifications:

  • 1. P1 - If Appendix DS applies, this insurance policy must have minimum limits of $500,000 each occurrence and $500,000 in the aggregate. 
  • 2. P2 - If Appendix DS applies, this insurance policy must have minimum limits of $1,000,000 each occurrence and $1,000,000 in the aggregate. 
  • 3. P3 and P4, less than 70,000 records - this insurance policy must have minimum limits of $5,000,000 each occurrence and $5,000,000 in the aggregate. 
  • 4. P3 and P4, 70,000 or more records - this insurance policy must have minimum limits of $10,000,000 each occurrence and $10,000,000 in the aggregate.

Some suppliers are not eligible for CampusConnexions insurance programs. This insurance is limited to goods and/or services being provided to the University of California only.
