Covid-19 Information

Quarantine and Isolation

UCSC students and employees who test positive for COVID-19 with a laboratory test or home test and those who are close contacts to cases will need to follow campus isolation instructions.

Reporting COVID-19

COVID-19 requires all of us to be even more attentive to our health, regularly checking for symptoms associated with the virus.

For employees: Continue to self-assess your health status and possible COVID symptoms each day before coming to a UCSC owned or leased facility. If you experience COVID-19 symptoms, stay home, contact your healthcare provider and inform your supervisor.

If a COVID-19 positive test result is received please follow the COVID-19 positive test result instructions for employees..

Face Coverings

Masks are not required for most indoor settings at UC Santa Cruz facilities, but their use is still strongly recommended. California Department of Public Health and Cal/OSHA guidelines both state that individuals who test positive for COVID-19 must mask for 10 days following a positive test as applicable. Asymptomatic exposed individuals must mask for 10 days following an identified close contact to someone with COVID-19.

Department request form for multiple COVID-19 Employee Face Coverings

Employees; including faculty, staff, and student employees can wear face coverings if they voluntarily choose to do so, unless it would create a safety hazard.  To request face coverings, please complete this department face coverings request form. Events and Guests

Consider testing before and 3-5 days after a gathering, a large event or travel, especially if you are going to be around people who are higher risk (older adults, immunocomprimised, and unvaccinated people).

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements

The UC Policy on Vaccination Programs applies to all Covered Individuals. A Covered Individual includes anyone designated as personnel or students under this policy who physically access a University Facility or program in connection with their employment, appointment, or education/training.

There are two parts to the compliance with the university’s updated policy: Primary Series and Booster Requirement.

COVID-19 Primary Series Requirements

The Primary Series will remain mandatory for all Covered Individuals, subject only to religious and medical/disability exceptions. There are limited exemptions for covered individuals.

All newly hired employees must become compliant with the UC Vaccination Programs Policy by providing proof of vaccination or obtaining an approved exception (medical/disability or sincerely held religious belief) or pregnancy deferral, within eight weeks of their hire date.

Employees can upload proof of vaccination by logging into Health e-Messenger with your CruzId and Gold password.  Follow these illustrated step-by-step instructions for uploading your proof of vaccination.

COVID-19 Booster Requirements

All employees are required to complete the 2022-2023 Bivalent COVID-19 Booster Attestation Form for Staff and Academic Employees to inform the campus of their bivalent COVID-19 booster status.  If you are a staff member with questions about the vaccine policy and whether it applies to your situation, you can email
