Faculty & Staff Wellness Program Workshops this Month

Grief and the Holidays with Silvia Austerlic: 

Tuesday, November 1st, 12 p.m. - 1 p.m.

While the world faces a mountain of collective loss, the holidays can be even more difficult for those who are grieving the death of a loved one. This session is designed to support participants as they navigate the holiday season, especially during our current pandemic environment. It will provide education about the various dimensions and components of grief and loss; and offer the opportunity to create a practical, balanced, and personalized coping plan. The possibility of healing and resilience will be discussed within the individual and collective context.

This workshop will be presented by Silvia Austerlic, an intercultural educator, facilitator and consultant @ Senti-Pensante Connections. She is a working member of the Radical Resilience Initiative and a lecturer for Oakes College where she developed and teaches a class titled “Building an inner sanctuary” about the cultivation of inner and external resources in order to show up for social justice and community care. She also facilitates campus-wide learning events surrounding cultural humility, social justice, and fostering care in the community.

Intro to the Anti-Inflammatory Diet with Madia Jamgochian: 

Friday, November 18th, 12 p.m. - 1 p.m.

You may have heard that inflammation is the root cause of all disease, but did you know that what you eat has a profound effect on feeding or fighting inflammation? This one-hour nutrition lecture will cover what foods promote inflammation in the body, as well as what foods combat inflammation. We will go over Leaky Gut, foundations of an anti-inflammatory diet, nutrient deficiencies, and supplementation. Making just a few small changes can alter your health for the better!

This workshop will be presented by Madia Jamgochian. Madia graduated from Bauman College of Holistic Nutrition in 2013 after completing her BA in Environmental Studies and Exercise Sports Science at UCSB. Shortly after, she started her personal consulting business My Healing Habits. She enjoys educating on how to heal inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, and believes in the food-as-medicine approach.
